Who is involved in WALNA?

The total Year 3, Year 5 and Year 7 population of public schools in Western Australia is approximately 56,500. With a few exceptions, all of these students undertake the reading, writing, spelling and numeracy assessments. Around 22,000 students from WA Catholic and independent schools also participate in the assessments..

Public schools in Tasmania and some independent schools in South Australia and ACT also participate in WALNA.

In all, over 100,000 students across Australia participate in WALNA each year.

From 2008, National Literacy and Numeracy assessments will be implemented at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

The table below shows the year level participation in the assessments.  By finding the year that an individual student commences Year one, it can be seen when students will participate in the assessments.
