Frequently Asked Questions
Who will find the Timetabling Module useful?
The Timetabling Module is designed to provide an easy-to-use, logical environment for the development and maintenance of a timetable. All secondary schools currently using an electronic timetabling tool will require the Module when implementing SIS. Secondary schools using a manual timetable approach, and primary schools with complex resource constraints, should also consider the advantages of the Module.
What is the timetabling approach used?
The software supports the wide range of timetabling processes currently employed by schools in the creation of timetables. Timetabler's may choose to continue to timetable using familiar strategies. Alternatively, they may choose to take advantage of optional processes that allow the system to take account of resource usage, links between grids and period structures.
Who will be able to access the timetable data?
Access to the SIS application is protected by a security tool that enables a user to access components of the system appropriate to their area of responsibility. For example, a school officer may have access to the student course maintenance area, timetabling reports and staff and rooming changes, but may be excluded from any timetable set-up or grid modelling processes.
Locks can be set and saved secure the timetable, grids and individual bands. These locks enable completed components of the timetable to be protected while others are worked on.
All users can make use of the outputs of the Timetabling Module to search and group in other modules.
Does the timetable data integrate with other SIS modules?
The Timetabling Module is designed to integrate seamlessly with the other SIS modules. Timetabling draws directly from the core Administration Manager Module for Student, Staff, Subject and Room data, and makes teaching set information available to Administration Manager, Lesson Attendance, Behaviour Manager, Curriculum and Assessment Manager modules. The Billing Module draws on student course information for the production of booklists and charges sheets and the maintenance of accounts.
