About the Gifted and Talented website

This website for the education of gifted and talented students in Western Australia is for teachers, parents/carers and students.

The site has been developed to provide information and practical assistance for the identification, provision, monitoring and assessment of gifted and talented students - supporting the obligations of the Western Australian Gifted and Talented Policy.

The highly sought after Teaching TAGS (1996) resource is now incorporated within these webpages.

Quality education for all

All government schools have commitment to quality education for all within a context of inclusive schooling. This provides the foundation for education that addresses the individual needs of all students.

We want all students in our schools to achieve the highest standards of learning possible so that they are equipped to deal effectively with the opportunities and challenges they encounter in a changing world. We want them to be enthusiastic about learning, in safe and supportive learning environments.

Director General, Paul Albert ( Plan for Government Schools 2004-2007 )

Teaching TAGS resource

The original Teaching TAGS resource package was supported by a range of initiatives and trialled in schools during 1994-95. The Department of Education and Training developed the ring binder version of the resource with Commonwealth Funding in 1996. The aim of the resource was to support schools in their initiatives to identify and provide for gifted and talented students.

Now out of print, this resource is now renewed and incorporated into this website. Many of the original 'sections' have remained the same with some changes including the renaming of the Special Needs section as Inclusivity and the Parallel Programming section forming the basis of the interactive Suggested Activities link.

Acknowledgement is given to contributors to this website and to the original writing group and editor for providing such a rich canvas to work from.
