The It Pays to Learn Allowance is an annual payment of up to $400 made to parents for each student turning 16 or 17 in 2008 undertaking an accredited vocational education and training course (VET) on a full time basis. When enrolled for a full year, the $400 comprises two payments of $200 per semester.
Parents of students turning 16 or 17 in 2008, studying on a full-time basis at TAFEWA colleges or registered training organisations will receive information packs directly from the organisation. The application should be completed and returned to the address on the top of the form.
Parents of apprentices and trainees turning 16 or 17 in 2008 will receive an information pack. The application should be completed, signed by the employer and returned to the address on the top of the form.
The information packs include a letter from the Minister and an application form.
The application form has not been included on the website to ensure that each family only receives and submits one form.
If parents have not received an information pack by May 2008, please telephone the It Pays to Learn Allowance Line and one will be mailed directly to you.
Due to privacy requirements, payments can only be made once an application form has been submitted and processed.
Parents who have eligible children starting in training, apprenticeships or traineeships during the year can apply for the It Pays to Learn Allowance at that time.
