The Aboriginal Education Team consists of the manager of Aboriginal Education, Co-ordinator of Aboriginal Education, and two Aboriginal Liaison Officers.
Manager Aboriginal Education
Our Manager Aboriginal Education (TBA) is based in our Manjimup office full-time.
The MAE manages the Aboriginal Education Services team. He/she works closely with the team, schools and the community to develop appropriate programs that increase Aboriginal involvement in education and training. The Manager provides executive support to the District Aboriginal Education Council which has wide community representation. The role of the Council is to provide advice to the District Director about ways to enhance educational outcomes for indigenous students and increase Indigenous parental and community input into schools. A District Principal’s Consultative Group provides advice and support to the District Aboriginal Education team.
Co-ordinator of Aboriginal Education: (CAE)
The co-ordinator is based in Busselton full-time.
The co-ordinator works across all schools and has conducted the Aboriginal Cultural Awareness program Our Story with all schools in the district. Her major role is to work with schools and community members to develop programs that increase Aboriginal involvement with education and the understanding of Aboriginal culture within school communities.
Aboriginal Liaison Officers: (ALO)
We have 2 ALOs, one based in Busselton 3 days per week and one in Manjimup 2 days per week.
The ALOs provide a service to both the coastal and inland schools and work with staff, parents and community members to improve the access and participation of Aboriginal students in all levels of schooling.
