Landcare education emphasises
a hands-on approach as the best strategy to develop understanding
and awareness about natural resource management and its connection
to environmental, social and economic values.
Over 1500 teachers,
8000 primary and secondary students and 5500 Government
agency
staff
have
attended Landcare education
courses at the Tammin Alcoa Landcare Education Centre (TALEC)
since 1989. Many school groups return to TALEC each year or
each alternate year. A number of schools have integrated Landcare
across the curriculum, even making it a whole course of study
for a term, with the course culminating in a field visit to
TALEC.
Other schools have set up collaborative projects with farmers
in towns around the wheatbelt, producing seedlings to plant on
these
farmers
properties and actually visiting the farms to plant the trees.

Landcare education is not restricted
to courses at TALEC. Many teachers have incorporated Landcare
education as part of the teaching-learning program. Other schools
have set up environmnetal clubs, joined environmental groups
or started environmentally aware school projects such as composting,
growing trees, recycling and local tree planting.

in Landcare education include:
