About Our Schools

The Albany Education District provides for approximately 8000 children in 26 government schools, including three senior high and one high school, two district high and one agricultural schools, level three to level six primary schools, education support centres, 10 early childhood units and a number of private and alternative schools.

The northerly schools in the district cater for the well-established farming communities, with Kojonup and Gnowangerup as major centres. Closer to the coast are the schools around Mount Barker, the centre of one of Australia's fastest-growing premium wine industries. The nearby Porongurup Ranges, with its wineries and restaurants and the national park with its bush walks and wildflowers, are major tourist locations.

Schools in the east of the district are in the Walpole-Denmark area, between popular south coast estuaries and beaches and large tracts of natural forest, including the Valley of the Giants home to unique hardwood tingle trees. In the eastern part of the district are the majestic Stirling Ranges and a rugged, imposing coastline.
