Partners in Learning
The Department of Education and Training is pleased to be part of
the Partners in Learning Program. WA was the first state in Australia
to announce this national initiative which provides teachers
throughout Australia with greater access to ICT resources and professional
development.
Partners in Learning is a $250m million worldwide initiative
run by Microsoft. Here in WA, we have two programs focusing
on the needs of public school teachers.
Teachers Have Class!
From the beginning of 2005 the Department offered up to 2,000
teachers the opportunity to take
part in online training to develop their ICT skills. These skills
are fundamental to effective teaching of our students for the future.
The primary resource for ICT skills development under the new partnership
is SchoolKiT’s PDpoint – the professional development
resource for schools and school districts focused on ICT integration
and quality teaching.
Over five years, the program will target up to 13,000 teachers
- to help them realise their potential through the effective use
of ICT. This in turn will benefit students in WA public schools.
The Department's commitment to the Partners in Learning Program
will build on its $45m investment in Notebooks for Teachers from
2001. The continuation of this initiative for a further 3 years
will result in 16,000 notebooks being leased to teachers through
this scheme.
