Books Alive - August 2008

Books Alive is an Australian Government initiative that runs for 4 weeks encouraging children to experience the joys of reading. The 2008 Books Alive Great Read Guide lists 50 remarkable books across a huge range of genres and styles, selected by a panel of book industry experts from around Australia. Letter Link - June to August 2008

Australia Post's Letter Link program, encourages school children across the country to write to Australian athletes. Visit Australian Olympic Team or BK Zone for more information.

 

National Simultaneous Storytime - 21 May 2008 at 11:00am

The simultaneous reading of Arthur written by Amanda Graham and illustrated by Donna Gynell took place on Wednesday, 21 May 2008 at 11:00am across Australia. See National Simultaneous Storytime 2008

 

MS Readathon - June 1 to June 30

MS Australia asked children to seek sponsorship to read throughout June. MS Readathon participants received a certificate and reading rewards. For more details, visit the MS Readathon website.

 

Children’s Book Council of Australia Junior Judges’ Project - April 1, 2008 to August 17, 2008

The CBCAJunior Judges’ Project (JJP) offers an online national framework for children’s literature activities in schools. After the Short List was announced, (see Children’s Book of the Year Short List Announcement ), students read the short listed books and voted online for a Winner and two Honour Books. Indigenous Literacy Project - 3 September 2008

Indigenous Literacy Day and The Fred Hollows Foundation with the support of the Australian Publishers Association and the Australian Booksellers Association, aims to raise funds to buy books for remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.
