A subscription to The
Literature Base is worthwhile for school
libraries. It is always full of relevant and practical ideas
for incorporating literature into the curriculum.
The ideas and activities included in
this fourteenth Handbook update have been developed by WA
teachers and librarians to support the 2004 Book Week theme,
Doorways and are designed to be incorporated into
literature-based programs for primary school aged students.
(Early Childhood to Middle Childhood/Early Adolescence)
The theme is approached in four ways:
Doorways to Strange Worlds of Fiction
Doorways to the Built Environment
Doorways to Art
Doorways to Other Lives
Included are extensive booklists; discussion, writing and
research topics; games; art and craft ideas; excursions; display
ideas; websites, quizzes and puzzles.
