Sustainable Schools Initiative

The Sustainable Schools Initiative is a partnership of the Australian Government and the States and Territories that supports schools and their communities to embed sustainability within their culture. It supports whole-school approaches to education for sustainability that provide both immediate environmental, social, financial and educational benefits and encourage engagement with values, knowledge and skills in sustainability for the longer term.

Key Resources
Sustainable Schools provides a focus on the management of resources and facilities including school grounds/biodiversity, energy, waste, water, products purchased and materials used in schools – this is via student-centred, action-based learning. It also works within and acknowledges the importance of interconnecting socio-economic issues, such as social justice, cultural and social diversity and participatory decision-making.
