SCIS - Schools Catalogue Information Service

SCIS is a national retrieval and cataloguing service for Australian and New Zealand schools.
The SCIS service is owned by the nation's education authorities. It is a cooperative venture of all State Government education systems, National Catholic Education Commission, National Council of Independent Schools and the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training.

CMIS Evaluation

CMIS Evaluation provides an information service for Western Australian teachers to assist them in the selection of quality curriculum resources that support the Curriculum Framework. All items recommended by CMIS Evaluation are catalogued by CMIS Cataloguing onto the SCIS database. The SCIS numbers are then included in Evaluation publications e.g. Primary Focus.

OZTL_NET:
OZTL_NET stands for OZ(Aus)tralian Teacher Librarians' NET-work. This listserv is open to all members of the Australian TL community and any people with a genuine interest in teacher librarianship and/or school libraries. Lyn Hay and Ken Dillon, at the School of Information Studies, Charles Sturt University, are the OZTL_NET Administrators.
Discussion may include: library, school and departmental policies, practices and procedures; location and use of Internet resources; information literacy issues, programs and strategies; reference questions of teachers and students; products and resources for school libraries; general discussion of teacher librarianship issues; training tips and use of information technologies; and workshop and conference announcements.

The Dewey Decimal Classification is the most widely used library classification system in the world. It is used in more than 135 countries and has been translated into over 30 languages.

MARC Standards

The MARC formats are standards for the representation and communication of bibliographic and related information in machine-readable form. "Machine-readable" means that one particular type of machine, a computer, can read and interpret the data in the cataloging record.

Australian Government Locator Service (AGLS) Metadata Standard
The AGLS metadata standard is a set of 19 descriptive elements which government departments and agencies can use to improve the visibility and accessibility of their services and information over the Internet. It has been mandated for use by Commonwealth Government agencies.

Dublin Core Metadata Initiative
The Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) is an organization dedicated to promoting the widespread adoption of interoperable metadata standards and developing specialized metadata vocabularies for describing resources that enable more intelligent information discovery systems.

EdNA Metadata Standard
The purpose of the EdNA Metadata Standard is to support interoperability across all sectors of education and training in Australia in the area of online resource discovery and management.
The EdNA Metadata Standard comprises a set of guiding principles together with a set of metadata elements which are situated within the DCMI framework.

GEM Tools Download
The Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM).
In association with the GEM Consortium members, the GEM Administrative Group at the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information & Technology at Syracuse University, have been working on a number of data files and applications for implementing the GEM profile and creating GEM metadata records. All of the resources on the GEM Tools Download are made available without express or implied warranties.
