Checklist for Writing, Levels 3-6

This checklist is based on phrases taken from the Outcomes and Standards Framework for LOTE. It's important that it is not used to assign a level to a particular task but as one indication among many that students are demonstrating work at a particular level.

Since these students have been demonstrating work at Writing Levels 3-5, phrases are taken from Levels 3-6 in order to allow for their development. I can tick, date or write brief comments in the columns as I see demonstrated evidence. Other aspects of the checklist include:

  • Since the phrase writes own texts appears at Levels 4, 5 and 6, I include it only at Level 4. The other criteria distinguish work at Level 5 or 6 from work at Level 4.
  • Levels 5 and 6 include the phrases a variety of text types. Since I require only one text type at this stage of the unit, this criterion is not relevant. Students will be able to demonstrate success in this criterion over several units of work.
