The ITAS In-School Tuition program is a partnership between the Department of Education and Training (DET), the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) and schools. This tutorial program aims to improve the literacy and numeracy levels of Aboriginal students in Years 4, 6 and 8. Funding provides for tutors, who are qualified teachers, to work alongside classroom teachers to target Aboriginal students who did not meet WALNA benchmarks in the previous year.
Schools in metropolitan areas must have a minimum of 20 Aboriginal students enrolled at the school.
Schools are required to read the Information Package, complete the Application Form and email it to the ITAS Coordinator, Aboriginal Education and Training Directorate. Primary, Middle Schools and District High Schools must return the application forms on or before Friday 30 November 2007 and High Schools on or before Friday 7th December 2007.
