Conductive Hearing Loss

Description

This program provides information and training to schools and parents. It offers professional development and teacher resource materials on Conductive Hearing Loss (CHL) and Otitis Media (OM). CHL is a major health issue affecting the education of Aboriginal students and has significant impact on children’s language, social and physical development.

The Do You Hear What I Hear? Resource Kit was developed by the Department of Education and Training Click for Kit Resourcesto consolidate community awareness, knowledge and understanding of OM and CHL and to reduce their impact on learning. The kit is designed to help primary school teachers, parents and members of the community recognise and assist children whose learning abilities have been impaired by the hearing loss associated with recurring OM or middle ear infection.

The Directorate is also focusing on improving outcomes for Aboriginal students in the area of speech and language.
