The Indigenous Aerospace Initiative (IAI) was established by the Western Australian Department of Education and Training in 2005 as an aspirational program to provide opportunities for Aboriginal students to undertake pilot training and enter the Australian aviation industry.
The one year program offers scholarships to complete an integrated course
in Aeronautical Studies and undertake flying training. The 2006-07 program
commenced at the Western Australian Aviation College on 16 October 2006.
The program consists of practical as well as theoretical components that will
allow students to gain an in-depth knowledge of the Australian aviation industry
and provide a springboard into an exciting and rewarding new career
Applicants interested in a career as a commercial or airline pilot must meet the following criteria:
Applicants wishing to be considered for the program should complete an Expression of Interest – Application.
Short-listed applicants will be asked to meet with a selection panel. Candidates
who are short-listed must undergo and pass flight tests. Successful candidates
will then be notified and asked to provide a Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate.
