About Us

The Aboriginal Education and Training, Participation and Achievement Standards Directorate operates across the government schooling sector, TAFEWA and the independent training area in Western Australia.

The Directorate provides strategic advice and support and establishes and monitors standards in relation to Aboriginal education and training. The Directorate also monitors the effectiveness of consultation, involvement and decision-making between Aboriginal communities and their local schools and vocational education and training providers.

The Directorate plays a pivotal leadership role that includes comprehensive support networking, brokering funding and collaboration with the Australian Government and other stakeholders to ensure joint goals and directions. The Directorate is also responsible for monitoring and reporting on the achievement of system level standards in Aboriginal education.

The Aboriginal Education and Training Operational Plan 2005-2008 (AETOP) is the Department of Education and Training's major policy framework and reflects five domains for action as outlined in Australian Directions in Indigenous Education 2005-2008.

The Directorate has a range of initiatives that are focused on closing the gap between the educational outcomes of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students. The Directorate’s key focus is on accelerating the educational outcomes of Aboriginal students, as well as supporting education providers and Aboriginal people in their quality leadership and community involvement in Aboriginal education and training.

Our Purpose
